Throughout Term 3, the members of Year 6 attended Junior Citizens at Oxford Fire Station. The children were been taught how to keep themselves safe in everyday life and have been given the chance to put their learning into practice. During their visit, each child experienced 8 different safety scenarios where they learned how to keep themselves safe in particular situations and had the chance to practice phoning 999.
Each scenario focused on a specific potential safety issue, including:
- Fire safety.
- Personal protection.
- Dangers within the home.
- Railway safety.
- Water safety.
- Road safety.
- Online safety and bullying.
- Fire safety at home and how to make sure your home is a safe place to live for people of all ages.
Each scenario was interactive, giving the children the opportunity to make real life decisions during a mock up of a potential real life emergency. Each child learnt how to keep others safe but, most importantly, learnt that the number one person to look after and protect in any given scenario is themselves before helping anyone else.
